I was wondering if there are any web designing courses at UF? I took three years of it in high school and I would like to keep it up and improve on it :)

not really. web design is more of a trade than an academic profession, and so UF doesn’t really offer anything for that. if you’re interested in actual web programming, you would do well to minor in comp sci or take the first few courses of that track. i don’t know of any for-credit courses that teach web programming specifically (the database class gives you an opportunity to us PHP, but the class is not about PHP or any other web language for that matter). the university’s web administration has a lot of interesting events that go on within their administrative department that isn’t really meant for students, but i think you can participate on some level. occasionally there are jobs that open up looking for web designers to work a college’s website.

if you’re interested in web design as a career, there are a lot of small freelance opportunities in gainesville. not many student organizations, local non-profits, and small business in gainesville have very nice websites. its a good town to build a portfolio in, if there is such a thing. of course, if you’re after a career, you should absolutely learn to program, and thus i recommend taking computer science courses (if you don’t want to major in it altogether)
