Is there generally a web filtering software on college internet? The reason I ask is because I develop websites as a hobby and my school's websense blocks some of my own sites (that don't break any rules, and aren't even bad). This question mostly reflects NC State and Pepperdine campuses.

Let me know.

Why are your own sites blocked? Are they controversial?

My high school has Websense. It is (not cool).

edited for content

i don’t think any college has any sort of web blocking, since it’s accepted as a fact that all college students are adults.

The reason is, more than likely, that the company you’ve chosen to host your site hosts other more questionable sites. A lot of times you’ll share an IP with that same website and firewalls and software like WebSense will block your clean enterprise along with the flagged one.

Get a new host.

I mean I have my own dedicated solution and the only site on my server that is blocked is mturkforum.com which discusses amazon’s mechanical turk. I have no clue why it’s blocked. My large online teen community isn’t blocked though.

Good to hear that websense isn’t a college level!
