So I made a website showcasing my talent. It’s an unlisted account so you can only get there with the link…and the only place I’ve shared the link is on my applications. The metrics show when and how long visitors from certain towns are looking at it. Or even if they’re looking at it at all, and some are not:(( This is the kind of thing that could drive a person crazy with one month to go! Also, my last name is at the end of the alphabet and I’m still waiting on February scores…can I hang onto hope that they’ll eventually get to looking at it? Do we assume that AOs look at everything, or could I have been eliminated already?
I don’t think that they start looking at your application until it’s been completed.
At most schools, you will see that applications are read by several admissions officers and faculty members. They ultimately have 1 to 2 more weeks of reading apps and I wouldn’t worry about it. Yes, it is possible you’ve been eliminated already, however, it could also mean you have already been admitted based off your basic app (without supplemental materials). I wouldn’t read too much into it, but make sure you post back on M9.
With the volume of applications, many admissions readers won’t click on any extra links. So even if they had interest in your application, a lack of traffic doesn’t mean anything.
Four hits this week in one day from the same location. So I guess that means one school got to my application this week. They spent mere seconds there though so that’s not very promising. I almost wish I hadn’t figured out I could track this stuff!
You can’t see the location?
I can see the location…and also that they didn’t hang around the website for very long. :-S
it’s ok I think they do that to everyone lol. I submitted three videos on slideroom to one school and they only watched one and only halfway through it. And for other schools that I didn’t submit through slideroom but only put a link on sao application – they never opened it…
Oh… but nothing is definite until M9!
Would you mind sharing what type of software you are using to track this? Is it Google analytics?
Does it place tracking cookies? How does it know how long the person spent on the website?
I uploaded a wix website but I think you have to upgrade it to see the analytics…
It’s a wix website that we linked to Google Analytics. The website costs something monthly but GA is free. I don’t know about how it works, but it’s very user-friendly in terms of showing the different metrics, like where traffic is coming from, how long they’re staying on certain pages, etc.
Thank you. Does it show you the domain name or IP address of the traffic, or is just broken down into generalities (North america, Europe, Asia, etc)??
I just connected mine to Google Analytics. I’m pretty sure it hasn’t been viewed
I don’t think it starts to gather data until you connect to it so you are probably fine @ilovechoateeeee
also where do you guys put the link? Do you just put it on SAO or Gateway app?
I believe sparkatzz is correct so you wouldn’t be able to see if it was viewed a month ago or whatever.
As far as demographics, it breaks down to pretty fine locations. Like mine showed Andover. (For all of 19 seconds.) Then again it also showed China, which is very strange given that the link is private and the only people I’ve shared it with are the schools, and none of them are in China.
I think we’re kind of in “grain of salt” area here. The good news at least is that this kind of guessing is almost over.
Oh, and I put my link in Gateway where it said to share extra stuff.
Actually, we’re in the pointless area of reading the tea leaves. This question pops up numerous times each admissions cycle by applicants wondering what it means. It means nothing. You’d get more statistical accuracy from asking the Magic 8 Ball. You’ll have the definitive answer soon enough.
@sparkatzz I shared mine in Gateway
well from what I see on my youtube analytics, there are 2 views from slideroom, and none from gateway or SAO. So I figured most of them just don’t bother to open any links from the extra stuff place.
@MaylaSunshine as for China, it might be an AO that traveled to China watched it? Otherwise it might be simply inaccurate
