Website for music on college apps

I'm a pianist, and I'm thinking of creating a website where I can display all my music and experiences through recordings and videos. This will most likely also help with the college application process, especially if I don't send a recording directly to the music department of a particular university right away. Although I'm not planning to be a music major, piano's been a large part of my life and extracurriculars that I'd like the college admissions to see.

Creating a website is very time consuming, especially since I'm no good at writing codes and I'd have to buy a domain. Would it be okay if I design a blog using a common blogging site for this purpose, or would that be not professional? Does anybody have any good suggestions for creating websites?

Thanks!

My sense is that you are asking two distinct questions:

(1) How do I go about submitting a music arts supplement to the colleges I’ve applied.

(2) How do I go about creating a music web site.

These are really two separate questions. The answer to the second does not address your primary question. Since this is college confidential I’ll provide some guidance on the first.

In practice colleges do not have a uniform process for music supplements. So you need to look at what the requirements are for your colleges of interest. While the common app has an arts supplement section many colleges do not use it.

With a small amount of research you can get the college specific instructions. Here are two examples:

[Arts Supplement : Stanford University](http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/application/freshman/arts.html)
http://music.williams.edu/files/items/The_Williams_Music_Supplement__REV-Sept2011_.pdf

Stanford expects a CD (audio format) of sample recordings. Williams requires that you upload your sample recordings to a specific website.

There may be other requirements (college specific) regarding repertoire examples and length, resume of music experience, letter of recommendation. In practice creating the recording (10-15 minutes) is in my opinion the most difficult step.
