Website used to check which textbooks are needed for our classes?

is there one? thanks.

Sadly, it does not look like there is. You can list the books from both the Cal Bookstore and Ned's Bookstore, then try to figure out the ISBN to procure them from less expensive sites such as Amazon, Half.com etc.

Bookstore - College Textbooks, Golden Bears Apparel and Gifts, Cal Student Store : www.ucberkeley.bkstr.com

Ned's -
<a href="http://www.nedsbooks.com/ucb/%5B/url%5D">http://www.nedsbooks.com/ucb/</a></p>

The information is very poor, especially if you need specific editions or translations of books. There's no way to figure it out from what is one those sites. Sometimes you can figure it out by the price, whatever the price they list, you can match it up with the retail price on Amazon.com or wherever.

Having had far too many classes requiring translated texts, I stopped trying to use the website for anything other than getting a basic idea of how much I need to allot for textbooks.

I go in person. It's the only sure-fire way to make sure you're getting the right books.

Do note, however, that some departments include book lists on their sites. Check that out.

isn't the selection at the Cal Student Store's textbooks section supposed to be accurate though? don't they get their info from the departments? . .

The problem is with the way the information is displayed online, dt_. It's not. :p They give you a basic title and author and that's it -- no ISBN, no edition numbers, no pictures, nada.

I used the Cal bookstore's website and looked it up on Amazon; it gives you the ISBNs there and from then I looked on Half, eBay, Amazon, and the bookstore to compare prices. This was after I went to the library downtown.

For a lot of books, that will work fine. If, however, you are concerned about which edition is being used, or which translation, or anything where the title of the book might be the same but the content is otherwise different, be careful.
