Welcome aboard MT CC!! I'm A&N's mom (MT sophs). I am so glad you are hopping in to greet and answer questions. I think it is invaluable that prospective students and new students get their information straight from a current student. Your time and effort here on this forum is GREATLY appreciated.

I encourage you all to take Shay up on her offer. Shay can give you proper and accurate information regarding Webster's program.

Shay, it sounds as though things are going so well with you. Keep up the good work!! :)

Hi Shayla,
My S has been accepted into the BFA MT for next year. He also has other acceptances so he's yet to make a decision. How many kids, (boys/girls) are in this years freshman class? What do you like particularly about the training you are getting? I have read on CC that many think that Webster in an MT program with an emphasis on acting. Do you agree? If you were accepted to other programs last year what were your reasons for choosing Webster? We would really appreciate any insights you could give.

You have raised two amazing boys! They are so kind, and they've helped me out this year alot! So Kudos to you! Hope you are having a great year yourself! :)

MTaussie,

Congratulations to your S for his acceptance...we all look forward to this upcoming class so much! As of now, there are eight MT girls, and one rege girl as well as 6 MT boys, and 5 rege guys.
As I said before, I love EVERYTHING about this program! :) I can't say enough! Specifically, the faculty is one of the major highlights here. All of the teachers are working actors, and are amazing in their speciality, as well as all of the other areas we study. They are so loving, and supportive...we never feel as if we should be "honored" to be studying here. We feel appreciated. At the same time, we are pushed to our fullest extent, and our "A" game is always expected. Slacking isn't an option, which I love. I feel like I have learned more in these two semesters than I could have imagined.
This program is VERY acting based. Of course, we take private voice and piano, as well as dance classes. The acting training here is invaluable, and I don't see how any teachers or programs could be more qualified to bring truth out in an actor!
I hope this answers your questions, feel free to ask more, I'm an open book! :) Also, if your son would like to visit, or needs to talk to someone about Webster, I or anyone really, would be happy to talk to him! Just let me know!

During Senior Showcase, all the musical theatre, and regional theatre majors perform together, so our one regional won't be alone! no worries! And the reason I said "as of now" is because we started with 22, but two people chose to leave earlier last semester, due to personal reasons! Hope that clears it up, feel free to ask more!

We have 8 musical theatre girls, and 1 regional theatre...so nine total. And we are all in class together. We can't audition our freshman year, it's all about the training!

I got my letter the other day, I'm in! I'm very excited. I'm also in at Roosevelt...I'm having a hard time deciding. Any suggestions from anyone? They would be greatly appreciated!!

Are you on myspace? Go to myspace.com/bugtussle - my granddaugher's name is Katie. Join the Webster Conservatory Class of 2010 group on Katie's space and it may help you get some more info. She spent a couple of days at Webster and that helped her make her decision, after seeing how everyone there loved the program so much and what a cohesive group it is. Also, she met Shayla, so you should correspond with her too. Good luck! Katie's Gramma

The first letter Katie got was a letter from the University, saying she was accepted academically, then a letter regarding scholarships, then she got a big white envelope with a nice certificate in it with a letter of congratulations regarding her admission to the Conservatory. I heard from a Freshman friend of mine that the letters go out as the secretary is able to get them prepared, so maybe she is still working on them! Good luck!

No letter again today. Worried me so much that I called admissions to check on my status. They said that I was in a pool of kids who had been put on a wait list, stating that once they hear from the accepted kids on May 1, they will be able to offer what's left for the wait listers. I have other acceptances, and will most likely be deciding before May 1 where I will attend. Sad to cross Webster off my list, but then again...I can't wait that long. I wish they would have sent a "wait list" letter like most schools. So if you haven't heard yet...you should definitely call!

What other schools were you accepted at - are they MT schools? How long do you have, if you sent in your money for intent to enroll, to have it refunded if you got in to Webster after the 1st? Are you a girl or a guy? Not that it makes any diff to this convo, I'm just curious! You already know I'm a Gramma!

Acceptances: Northern Kentucky U, Point Park, Millikin, Emerson, Baldwin-Wallace, Hartt

Rejections: CCM, Otterbein, Ithaca

Waitlist: Webster

I don't know about any refund/time limit business. If I had gotten into Webster, I would have visited in the next few weeks before May 1 to feel out the program (I auditioned at Unifieds). I don't think I'll be visiting now and will focus more on other programs.

okay. hahaha, sorry kids;
i have been busy with my operetta
and some community plans i have, since i'll be here
for just... JUST one more year!

but, i know that i will definitely be re-applying
to webster next year, i can get in the school, no problem;
and i'll be re-auditioning to the conservatory
((and i'll get in, cuz i've already found my pieces hahaha))
but anyway. what other schools should i apply to?
i just don't want a repeat of this year.

i was planning on webster and cincinnati's program;
but... i don't know of any other decent programs,
other than like tisch ((which i'm not even considering,
$51k a year? hahahahaahahahaha...))

so. any other reccomendations for schools?
i don't really know too much about audition theatre schools,
so any help would... help, i guess.

there's still a 90% chance that i'll choose webster WHEN i get in :P
cuz, that school impressed me a lot. and so did the faculty
and the students are all fun; but i still want to see
what the hell is out there!!

thanks for the support;
i wasn't too sad about it.
it's my first rejection out of many i'll face with this career...

I've been a lurker on this website, but the acceptance letters my D received this week has spured me to write this.

We too received the Webster rejection letter. It re-enforced my D's decision that Webster wasn't for her in the first place. I'm hoping other people didn't have the same experience we did, but it was true for my D's best friend who auditioned at NYC Unifieds, (while my D auditioned at Webster) as well. Here are some changes you might consider.
1. Yes, the rejection letter is unnecessarily hurtful and rude.
2. It might help to have an accompanist that is a little more accomplished.
3. You might consider having students from your program as embassadors to talk to potential students and make them feel welcome.
4. It would've been nice to have some teachers from your department to talk to as well.
5. It would be nice if the auditioner even bothered to look at an auditioner instead of stare down at the score sheet the entire time.

As a theatre professional you must know how hard this process is. Is it Webster's goal to make the process so unwelcoming, because that's what the real theatre world is like?

My D's best audition experiences were for schools she was accepted into. (Only 2 out of 6, but we'll take it). They made her feel welcome and appreciated.

In all likelihood she will be attending the school where one of the professors said, "...remember you should be auditioning us as well, to make sure we're right for you. Theatre is so hard and you must determine if we're people you can trust with your soul and your life." As a parent I appreciated that.
