Go for comfort even if that requires giving up a bit of formality.
Unless you’re in the wedding pictures don’t worry about it. Nobody cares or will remember what you wore. The worst that happens is that someone steals your coat/blanket/ king size quilt because they didn’t bring one. It’s much worse to remember the wedding as torture of being cold rather than the happy time it should be.
If you like to dance and the music is good, that will help a lot! We were fine once we hit the dance floor. It was cocktails and dinner that was rough!
I get cold easily and went to a fall wedding in the mountains last year. I wore a dressy pantsuit with a tank top and sweater, but under the tank top I had a secret layer of an athletic wear top. It looked absolutely ridiculous if I took the sweater off, but you couldn’t tell a bit with the sweater on. I would have frozen to death w/o it. As it was I think my husband gave me his suit jacket too. I also had on knee length boots.
Great idea! Cuddle Duds makes a whole line of clothing “liners” to keep warmer.
You all have convinced me to just be warm. I’m wearing a Kamarov dress. Have a nice pashmina that matches. And a longish sweater that does too. I’ll toss in a fleece throw I have, and maybe a fleece jacket too.
Shoes are flat closed toe so no problem there!
I guess I wish they had said this was all outside before this week!
Or better yet that the weather stayed good! But it is weather–might still be good.
Enjoy and stay warm!! (I love Komarov.)
I think someone suggested this already but I’ll also say bring something warm to sit on. If I learned anything after eating outdoors for so long it’s that chairs sitting in the elements can be COLD. And when you sit on them there’s a lot of body touching cold metal. I have a small cashmere throw that I bring with me to sit on - it is so much warmer. Assuming there is “assigned” seating you could put in your seat upon arrival so you’re not carrying it around with you.
Enjoy
I’m finding my real “fashion tribe” here on this thread. Not “old fashioned” or “fashion forward” but dependent on the weather. If it’s too cold I’m wrapped in a huge quilt. If too hot it’s a wet towel dipped in ice (don’t laugh). Happy to bring a cushion to protect my butt from being cold on a steel seat.
It sounds like you’ve got it figured out, thumper1!
I’ll add that I was at an outdoor spring wedding last year that was freezing (even with heaters - and love the picture above of people clustering around the heater for warmth!). The wedding couple gave out inexpensive pashimas and I had one already. Still cold.
A woman at the wedding had a stylish fur wrap and it looked so elegant, fun, and warm. It was in white but this pic is similar in black…
PS @DramaMama2021 - love those looks (little black leather jacket, multiple layered necklaces, etc.!). If they are yours, you look great!
I asked…no heaters. “It might get chilly”. No kidding.
Thanks for the suggestion of bringing a throw to either sit on or wrap around my legs. I have a few and might bring more than one.
I’m also bringing a black cashmere wrap for my daughter who is also worried about being chilly.
I think I’ll toss a second heavier nice cotton sweater in my big bag instead of a fleece. Trying to upgrade my look🙄
Thank you! Those photos are from a blog I reference occasionally but are reflective of things I wear. She’s a bit older but has similar coloring and body type to mine which is nice for inspiration. I love layering jewelry… but not matchy matchy! (As discussed on the fashion thread on what makes you seem older. Lol)
Thanks, @DramaMama2021! Can I ask what blog? She has similar coloring as me also and I tend to wear a lot of black (even more now that I’m working toward a capsule wardrobe…!).
Funny enough I was just reading this with my morning coffee.
Thanks, DramaMama2021! Some of her outfits are cute and the photography/staging is nicely done on the site! Appreciate it!
Thanks for the link. I like her style and I’m going to explore her blog. I love linen.
I attended an outdoor event in Maine in early June and it was FREEZING! I was prepared and brought my long caramel colored suede coat, which looks great with dresses or pants. It was enough to stop me from being cold, but also looked stylish.
I picture @thumper1 having a Mary Poppins bag and that she just keeps pulling blankets and sweaters from this bag for everyone at the wedding. Maybe a roaring fire comes out of that bag too.
