Weekend at Cornell

Hey, is anyone going to the weekend sponsored by SWE on April 15th and 16th? I applied to the Engineering school and because I'm female, they sent me an invitation to come visit on that weekend. So, I was thinking of going. Is anyone else?

I would love to go, but I haven't received an invitation

They sent it along with a Likely Letter. I'd like to go, but I'm wondering if I have to pay the travelling costs or if Cornell takes it on themselves.

Yea I received one and I am planning to go...if you are really interested in cornell, it will be a good way to get acquainted with profs, students, and going in with a swe scholarship will always help.

..whats SWE?

I wouldn't expect Cornell to cover the traveling costs... But nonetheless, you should take the opportunity if you are able.

Oh, I'm definitely going whether Cornell pays or not. I think it'd be great fun and good opportunity. Do any of you guys know if they provide transportation like a shuttle service to and from the airport? Because I'll be coming in from Georgia and if transportation is provided, I'll be flying alone, if not, I'll be flying with my mom. Oh, also, what's the best/closest airport to Cornell on a direct flight? Hope I see many of you there!

There are no non-stop flights from Atlanta to Ithaca. US Airways is the only East Coast carrier that flies into the Ithaca airport. You can stop in Philadelphia, change planes and fly directly to Ithaca. Or, you might want to search out some other area airports on the link below:
<a href="http://www.cornell.edu/visiting/ithaca/directions_air.cfm%5B/url%5D">http://www.cornell.edu/visiting/ithaca/directions_air.cfm</a></p>

Oh. Well, shows how much I know about flying..
So you guys think flying to Philly, changing planes to Ithaca, and then taking a taxi to Cornell is the best route?

If you're going with your mom, I'd recommend flying into Syracuse and then renting a car and driving into Ithaca (about an hour drive) since I bet a lot of other people will be flying in to Ithaca for the same event. That's what I did last time I visited.

Personally, I'd recommend using the Ithaca airport. If you guys havn't seen it, it is absolutely tiny. You can show up 10 minutes before your flight and still not miss your flight. There's only one gate and only one plane boarding at a time. There's probably only 50 people max in the airport at anytime.

If you fly into Syracuse, you have to pay $50 for the 1-hour bus ride to get to Ithaca.

Oh and beginning on May 2, Northwest is starting service in Ithaca so there'd be some new routes besides just Philly and NY.

Well, this weekend thing is on April 15th and 16th so too early for the May 2nd openings, oh well.

I'd love to rent a car from Syracuse and drive up there but my mom and I..well, we're not very good at the whole driving to a place where we've never been before without our navigation system in our car thing. Heh. So, I think I'll go to the Ithaca airport. However, now, I'm not sure if I should leave on the morning of the 15th and go straight to the campus or leave on the evening of the 14th and book a hotel. Hm..
Well, thanks for all your inputs! It helped so much :)
