"Weekend Commuters"

Just wanted to see if anyone else here commutes back home on the weekends for one reason or another, and what do you guys like to do on the weekends when away from campus?

I'm a junior this year, and spent the first two years living on campus doing the "typical college experience". The school was never really a good fit, and the whole experience never truly resonated with me the way I expected. I was heavily considering transferring but I didn't really have any academic reasons, and was pleased with career prospects/financial aid.

I have non-stop work during the week, with an internship and intense courses, and have no time to relax Monday through Thursday. But then Thursday PM after my last class, I'll take a 2 hr train (45 min. drive) back to my hometown, and just relax after the long week. I go to school in the "ghetto" of a LARGE city, but my hometown is this quaint little place on the water. The complete opposite, and a perfect way to get away from all of the stress. Plus its a much quieter place for me to get a lot of work/studying done.

And the thing is, I live five minutes from a major state university with 20,000 kids. So the last couple of weekends I've been chillen with my good friends from HS who go there and been goin to their parties, and have met some really cool people.

I was considering full-time commuting next semester, but I like splitting time between the two places as I am generally far more focused during the week on campus, and motivated to atleast make the most out of my degree and graduate with a high GPA. And then to relax at home on the weekends, and reset my mind for Monday.

You’re a junior. By now you’ve already established a good base of friends and don’t really need to worry about what others think.

I’m going to be a commuter my entire college career. I couldn’t get into the dorms because there’s huge waitlists, so I’m out of luck for the rest of my time here. I went to a CC an hour away for three years. It sounds like you’d enjoy it more near your hometown anyways.

Sounds like you’ve got the perfect situation now. Dorm during the week, home or visiting friends on weekends. Why mess with what works?

Yep, I was gonna transfer to the state school in the post but it’s a top notch technical school, and known to be horrible for business ( I’m an applied accounting and finance major). Wouldn’t make ANY sense to go from a school where I have a chance to be recruited by a major public accounting firm/ bank, to a school that just established their business program like 5 years ago.
