I would like some feedback from parents/students at Kent School. How does mandatory chapel work on Sundays? Are students allowed to go home for the weekend?

On Sunday, anyone who does not attend a Muslim prayer service, Catholic church service in town, or Jewish temple service on Friday night has to attend. If you are Muslim, Jewish, or Catholic they have these accomodations for the student. Catholic students need to have a letter from their priest at home though to be able to attend Catholic church as it is shorter than the school’s chapel and some try to go to that one just for the time. Everyone else goes to chapel at 11:00 am on Sunday and it lasts til about 12:15. Brunch follows in the dining hall. Students are allowed to go home for a total of 4 weekends per term sat-sunday or 2 full weekends fri night-sun night.

Ok thanks. I was trying to figure out if students cannot leave on weekends due to the mandatory chapel. So they can go to chapel but are allowed to miss Sunday chapel for 4sundays per term. I was concerned because we are interested in applying to Kent but still wanted the weekend option open when available.

In addition to bookluver07’s reply, if you visit your student on Sunday , you can ask the Dean to excuse your child from chapel. We live out of state, and when I visit my daughter, I usually take her out on Sunday mornings.

yes, although there was an email that came out saying parents need to take their students out after chapel

prepparent-nope you can leave! they arent really strict on the 4 weekend thing either

what kind of service is the service on campus? is it non-denominational?

episcopalian
