Not Candidate Weekends, but regular weekends....

What do the kids do on weekends to relax and have fun? Is there a $1 movie theater at Babson? Do they break into the Chemistry lab and mix up cocktails? Do they sit around a bonfire and sing Kumbaya?

Many Oliners work hard and projects and such on the weekends. But they also have time for fun and the occasional trip to Boston. There’s lots to do at Babson, but not sure how much they venture over there. Of course we know what they do on 3 weekends - CW fun.

Believe it or not there is a Midnight Mathematician club (at midnight) a few Saturday nightsper month. Students take turns presenting lectures on various topics.

Here is a club list. Not sure which ones meet on weekends, but probably the Dr Who fans do.

Lots of things happen, so much so it might be easier to say what I’ve never heard been done. Nope, there is no $1 theater at Babson. Breaking into the chemistry lab is pointless because the doors are never locked. Bonfires have happened before - but I don’t know if they sang Kumbaya… :)

Lots of other fun things happen.

This Friday night, there was a PowerChords concert during supper. Later, my daughter went to a jazz and blues concert at Babson as part of their Relay for Life fundraiser.

On Saturday, she went to the Babson Baseball doubleheader. Then, she (and 200+ others) went to the Olin Formal. Afterwards, she went to Midnight Mathematicians.

Tonight, the Tardis Club is watching this week’s Dr. Who episode (postponed from last night due to the formal).

On Friday night, there was a big Manhall party with the theme of Thrift Shop. On Saturday, there was a smaller Olin-only Manhall party after the formal. There was also a movie being shown in West Hall 3. Yesterday was also the Microsoft Puzzle Challenge and bunch of Oliners spent all day Saturday doing that.

One night this week a group moved a team room out onto the lawn because it was so nice outside.

One senior’s AHS capstone project is to put on Much Ado About Nothing. That opens this week.

In general, there’s a lot of stuff going on and it’s not hard to find it or to be involved. :-)

Mathinokc - I had to laugh after reading your post. Although I know I know a lot happens at Olin, my DS has never been so forthcoming to reveal such detail. I appreciate the info. Formal??

The formal was last night (7-11 PM) at the Microsoft NERD Center in Cambridge. The theme was “A Night on the Atlantic”. It cost $15 (+$10 for open bar if you were 21+). It was put together by the Olin SAC. They ran buses from the school.

That’s pretty much my knowledge about the event. My daughter described it by saying “It was a dance”. Yes, well.

My son went to out to dinner in Boston with his Olin friends who are also allergic to dances. There are niches for all even in our tiny family.
