Can anyone tell me what weekend life is like at StonyBrook. My daughter was accepted, we are out of state, and the commute to and from StonyBrook for us is not a pleasant one, so therefore, she would be spending alot of weekends on campus. Any info would be greatly appreciated. We did our own tour and we loved the campus, just need to know alittle more about the college life there.

Hi, usually the weekends depends on where she goes. Unfortunately, half the school commutes back and forth, so the weekends can be desolate at times.

Are there things to do around the area? Didn’t see any frat houses or sorority houses when we visited. Are there any and if so where are they. Going to the admitted students day but its not until April and you need to make a decision by May so it doesn’t give you a whole lot of time to make a decision so any info about the campus life would be greatly appreciated.

As the community is so large and diverse, there’s always something to do. Whatever your daughter is interested in, our campus has a club that organizes events for people with similar interests. Clubs are entirely supported by USG and fundraising, so they tend to do a lot of stuff. Several years ago, one of the clubs that I was in (Geology Club) went to Virginia for spring break, for example. The problem that most people who come to Stony Brook have is that they’re not used to finding these opportunities, as you have to actively find them.
