Can any current students tell me about the social life at UConn? Is it hard for kids from out of state to meet people? Do a lot of students go home for the weekend? Is it a snobby atmosphere?

I am not a current student but I have been there for an overnight stay with a friend. At the main campus pretty much no one leaves over the weekends.

I don't think it's any different for out of state people because at most a few kids from one high school will be going to UCONN and they might not even be friends. In the scheme of things, the day you arrive everyone knows no one.

And again, I dont go there, but the atmosphere does not seem to be snobby at all.

As long as you are willing to meet and make friends you will have no problem at Uconn or any other school. My D attended Uconn and for the most part people stay around on the weekends. But remember, all CT residents are at the most 2 hours from home, so there is some coming and going. In terms of meeting people, Uconn offers (or use to) a "first year experience" that is worth checking out. FYE allows students who share similar interests or majors to be housed together.

Uconn is certainly not a snobby school.

For the most part, it is considered a Drinking School (Playboy didn't include the school on their last Top Schools in the Nation list because "professional [partiers] shouldn't be included with amatuers"

However, Intramural's and other club activities are extremely important and popular on campus. With so many kids on campus almost every weekend, there will always be something to do, if your into the party scene or really want to stay away from that atmosphere.

Definitely not hard to meet people, no matter where you're from.

Not snobby in the least.

The majority of people stay on campus on weekends.

In short, weekends are awesome.
