Weekends -- is the campus empty??

With the allure of LA, and it being in such close proximity, I wonder if the campus evacuates ont he weekends.

Also, is there any interaction between little Oxy and the large Univeristies -- USC, UCLA etc.?

With few exceptions, I think Oxy is a unique LAC in a big metropolitan area. I can only think of Swarthmore or Haverford as being in similar predicaments. And, because of that fact, I wonder if the city swallows some of the college experience and removes some of the luster of the campus community.

Vassar kids tend to empty out hte college on weekends and go to NYC.
Haven't heard anything about Oxy doing that... I heard the opposite...that kids DON"T go to the beach or LA much ...they jsut stay on campus...or follow the rugby team to Vegas for a major tournament etc. (true!)
From what we've heard, the student population is close-knit and hangs together -- either everyone picking up and going to a big sports event or everyone hanging on campus. HOWEVER...this is just what I've heard from people who go there.

When I stayed overnight recently, most of the kids said they tended to stay on campus during the weekends.

Yeah, LACs in urban areas are few and far between -- some others that come to mind are Wellesley, Bryn Mawr, Barnard, Macalester, and U of Chicago.
