Weight of EC's?

I live in Maryland and I have a 3.9 UW 4.0 W with Honors and AP's. I got a 2030 first try on the SAT and I'm taking it this month and hoping for 2100+. I didn't studied at all the first time.

My EC's are terrible though... Just recently I picked up Running and Squash but not anything worth putting on my applications at this point. In school I'm in Yearbook and Newspaper but no leadership positions.

My match school is Maryland and I have no problem going there, but I would like to know if I could get into anywhere else with weak EC's. I'm thinking of applying to UVA, Notre Dame and UNC as reaches, but I am guessing they take EC's very seriously. Also im applying to wake forest and tulane but im not sure about those either with bad Ec's.

Is it worth paying the application fees?

You need to check the Common Data Set, section C7, for each of those schools. Here is the one for UVA: [Common Data Set: Institutional Assessment and Studies, University of Virginia](http://www.web.virginia.edu/iaas/datacatalog/cds/admission.shtm) ECs are Important there.

I know, but is it worth applying?

Yes, it is worth applying. Your grades and curriculum rigor and SAT scores matter more than ECs do.

Apply by Nov 1 for Maryland priority application. Notre Dame and Tulane offer non-binding EA. Take advantage of these if you can.
