How important are extracirriculars and legacy? I ask this because I have double legacy at Wesleyan and I am being recruited by the football team. Could this make up for slightly sub-standard test scores and grades?

Of course it can make up for "slightly substandard" test scores and grades... but it won't make up for completely awful test scores and grades. All the different factors are important and looked at and weighted, and if a few things stand out (ie. extracurriculars, family connection) it will push things in your favour, while other things (bad test scores and grades) push things against. It depends on how competitive things are this year, how the adcom is feeling on that particular day, etc. Good luck!

Could it? Yes, absolutely.

Will it? Well, academic standards are somewhat lower for recruited athletes, and being a legacy will give you an advantage when compared to other applicants with similar stats. However, no one will ever know exactly how much any of these things help, so there's no point in dwelling on it. Wes picks people that they think deserve to be here, for whatever reason.
