Weighted Averages?

I notice how almost everyone on these boards posts their weighted average, but doesn't every school weight grades differently? If so, then how can anyone's GPA be be compared to someone elses? My school weights an AP class with 1.15 and an honors 1.04 and that's it, thus making my UW GPA=3.76, but W GPA=3.90 ( That includes 3 AP Classes and all the rest honors except for 2 regular classes)

How does your school weight your classes?

Thanks for your imputs.

GPA:

4.0: 97+
3.8: 94-96
3.6: 91-93
3.4: 87-90
3.2: 84-86
3.0: 81-83
And so on. 0.0 for anything less than 70, regardless of difficulty.

For honors classes, add 0.5.
For AP Classes, add 1.0.

and that' s how the colleges do it?

Each college does it differently, sorry.

HVS-Yo are you sure that is how gpa works? In my school its:
2.5- 80
2.6- 81
2.7- 82
...
3.0- 85
3.5- 90
4.0- 95+

which way is right?

my school doesnt even it do it out of 4 points (I just did my grade in proportion into that)...we just get a grade out of a 100
