@ surf city I agree. I think I had a throw or twin that I used just for myself since H did not need the extra warmth/weight. @collage1 Mine was probably lighter weight than recommended since I originally bought it for my son.
If I order one it will have to be less wide because my husband wonāt want it on himā¦
I tend to like no weight, as opposed to weighted bed-coverings. Iāve used a down comforter in the winter forever. But, I toss and turn and have a lot of trouble sleeping, so seems like it may be worth trying. Iām thinking one of my sons may also benefit from it, so I figure we can buy one. Whether or not I like it I can loan it to him, and if he likes it he can keep it and I will get another.
@1214mom I havenāt bought a weighted blanket myself but from what Iāve read/heard I would be tempted to full at least a size smaller than your bed - honestly a full size seems like plenty for any size bed for one person. Maybe itās something the person wonāt use nightly??
Thanks @abasket. Iām thinking the 48 x 72 one for me, and 12 pounds. I want to know why the 12 pounder is more expensive than 15 pounder though.
Any input on pets with these blankets? Do they need to be taken into account? D and her DH have a cat.
Iām not sure I can articulate this question. If I wanted one for myself and got a smaller size, but DH wants to use the regular covers, am I stuck with all the regular covers since they cover the whole bed, and then the weighted blanket on top of me and the covers? It seems like that would be too hot.
@HighTide2020, thatās kind of what Iām trying to figure out too.
Plus, I Think I sleep better under a light comforter than not. But I toss and turn and wake up a lot throughout the night, and Iāve heard some people love them.
Both of my kids have them (twin sized). One has a 12lb and was has a 15 lb. They have had them for a year and really like them.
The brand we bought was āYnMā (not the most expensive and not the cheapest). We also got duvet covers for them because I donāt think washing such a heavy blanket would be easy!
IIRC, the weight is supposed to be 10% of your body weight. Glass beads were recommended. And they are sized to fit on the TOP of you bed, not hang over the sides (so you still buy to match your bed size).
Good Housekeeping has Top 10 list (YnM was a Best Budget):
We have 4 cats. One of them LOVES the blanket. When I get it out and put it on the bed, he is so happy. Heāll jump up and do the cat stomp on it and sleep the night with me. The other 3 pay it no attention. H swore it was because it was sand it the blanket. I told him it was glass beads, not sand. He wouldnāt believe me until I showed him the tag. And mine has a washable cover. I donāt own a duvet cover. I didnāt even know what one was until I was well in my 30s.
H and I have never shared covers. I donāt share. I also donāt like sheets. I like to curl up in my comforter. If Iām hot, I let some portion of my feet/legs out in the open. But my shoulders and torso have to be cocooned all by myself. So, when we get in bed, I move my comforter to my side and push the sheet to his. Then I get out the weight blanket (tossed in a rubbermaid bin in the corner) on top. Iām not sure what size mine is. Iād guess a twin or full.
Thank you for this thread. I just ordered myself one from YnM. My special ed teacher daughter says there are weighted stuffed animals they use with the kids.
This just happened to pop up In my feed https://www.yahoo.com/amphtml/lifestyle/choose-weighted-blanket-thats-equally-230302909.html
I had a few weighted blankets made by different brands. I still have no idea why I kept buying them, even after I figure that some of them are useless. After trying blankets by other brands, I suggest not getting the cheapest one. Otherwise, you will waste your money. It is the case when a higher price means better quality. The last weighted blanket I ordered is from https://sommio.co.uk/KnittedWeightedBlanket. I paid a reasonably higher price, comparing with previous models I bought. At least, I am more or less satisfied with the quality. I bought it in November last year. I can say that it serves me way longer compared with other brands.
Bumping up for a Christmas related question. D1 has a weighted blanket on her list - not a bed sized one but more of a lap blanket - you know cuddle on the couch in the evening with.
Her requirements are āsomething cute and soft that will look fine when itās left outā. Iām guess a washable cover would be good. Probably no more than 12 pounds? Maybe a little less.
Any sources? I was wondering about a light and fluffy down alternative one - I have it in my head though and not a source that Iāve found. But Iām open. Cute. Soft. Washable. Not too large.
For D, sheās happy with the cotton thermal blankets which are warm but not too hot for our HI climate. Iām not aware of anything light enough for her as sheās 97#.
Iām like George Costanza and canāt stand for my feet to be pinched at the end of the bed. My wife has a weighted blanket on our bed and I make her keep it on her side.
Amazon has a number of Sherpa or shaggy soft ones like this https://smile.amazon.com/Pawque-Sherpa-Weighted-Blanket-Washable/dp/B098X8NHH4/ref=sr_1_13?crid=1TNGDBBXSVBKU&keywords=weighted%2Bblanket&qid=1638554355&sprefix=Wei%2Caps%2C156&sr=8-13&th=1 and like this https://smile.amazon.com/Throw-Blanket-Couch-Faux-Fur/dp/B0851T4G22/ref=sr_1_28?crid=1NV4LOYQVM0L0&keywords=weighted+throw+blankets+for+couch&qid=1638554734&sprefix=weighted+thr%2Caps%2C182&sr=8-28

Just for the record, there are child weighted blankets at 6 pounds.
I saw the chunky knitted ones and love them - but not the $160 price!! I should look for some knock offsā¦
Shoot, I was going to order the 7 pound one for my daughter but itās not going to ship until the end of January
Ok @deb922 , find us a better deal!!!
