I understand that different high schools and colleges calculate unweighted, and weighted GPA differently.
I tend to understand GPA as a B- is the same as a B+, which is a 3.0.
For honors courses, add .5.
For IB/AP/Duel Enrollment, add 1 point.
Also, only weight academic classes, and not gym or piano.

At my school, upper level math classes (statistics, trigonometry, precalculus) are not called "honors" courses, but do the students receive honors credit? Also, languages at my school are not considered "honors". What's the deal?

What do colleges think?

Thanks

You should probably ask your counselor and form a good relationship with him/her while you’re at it.

Thank you for your advice, kagami6917.

Some universities recalculate high school GPA, so how your high school calculates it does not matter:

[Ask UF – How will UF compute my high school GPA?](http://www.questions.ufl.edu/admissions/freshman/15/)

Note that math courses below AP calculus are not automatically honors, unless an honors section is offered and designated as such. Same with foreign language courses below the level which is considered the level which prepares the student to take the AP test.

Other universities with more holistic admissions practices just look over the transcript to see that you did well taking the most rigorous courses available to you at your school.
