Weighted GPA and Unweighted GPA

Hi, I am a 9th grade. My high school doesn’t provide Weighted GPA. But I am going to take as many Honors & AP
classes possible in the next three years to be ready to apply some of the prestigious schools. My question is: how the colleges look at those GPA? Is there any drawbacks that my GPA is Unweighted? Thank you.

Absolutely none. GPA, weighted or unweighted, is just a simple representation of your transcript. Your transcript is what really matters, colleges see that regardless of whether or not your school calculates weighted GPA. They’ll see that you’ve taken advanced courses. Don’t worry about it.

I wouldn’t say there are any drawbacks–in fact, colleges prefer unweighted because it’s more standardized than weighted.

Most colleges recalculate GPA using their own scale anyway so, like the above poster said, if you have a tough transcript, they’ll know.

What basically all selective colleges will do is restate your gpa on a 4.0 scale so it’s not a problem if your school doesn’t weight grades

There’s no drawback. They’d probably look at unweighted GPA or weigh it themselves anyways. They will look at the rigor of your transcript and judge you off of that.

GPA is always recalculated based off your transcript since weighting varies so wildly between schools. My school doesn’t even give GPAs at all and it was fine

If they used wGPA, they will calculate with their scale anyway.
