Weighted GPA- does it help?

I want to get into Michigan which has an average high school GPA of 3.8. Mine is 3.65 unweighted and 3.85 weighted at a difficult school with really no easy classes. Do you think they will consider how much harder my classes have been?
And do they look at mainly your weighted or unweighted? The other schools in the area get their GPA automatically weighted (by even more, too) so they just have "GPA" on their transcript (already weighted, no unweighted is shown) and ours separates weighted and unweighted. I could have easily gotten about a 4.2 GPA at those schools.
They say they don't recalculate your GPA anymore, so do they just look at the number and compare to other schools? That doesn't seem very fair for people who actually had challenging classes. Do other factors go into determining how good your GPA actually is? Thanks

Do you mean U of M? Son was accepted for this Fall with a 3.68 UW and a 3.79 weighted; however, junior and senior years, he earned a 4.0+ every term, but his cum avg was lower due to freshman and soph grades not being that strong. Get the best grades and test scores possible - that’s the bottom line. U of M definitely recognized the upward trend in son’s GPA. He had a 30 on his ACT, with state/national sports championships and he is a published poet, which definitely helped him get in. There’s tons of info on U of M’s portion of this site - similar questions have been answered, so check it out.

Ok thanks. Yeah I forgot to mention I have a strong upward trend in GPA and 33 ACT so that should help. I’m just unsure whether they look at weighted or unweighted more.

Are you instate or OOS? The acceptance rate this year was about 40% for instate students and 36% for OOS students, with a record number of applicants, so it keeps getting tougher. You sound like you’re a great candidate with your grades and test scores. Like I said, check out this section of CC for great info on who got in with what grades, test scores, and extra curricular’s:
