How do you calculate each? At my school, honors classes are just worth .5 more than CP. So how would I calculate each?

Thanks

Depends on the school. Some offer 5 for an A, 4 for a B in honors/IB/AP classes, and some offer 4.5 for honors, 5 for AP, it really just depends on the school

My school:

Honors/Regular

A = 4.5 / 4.0
A- = 4.2 / 3.7
B+ = 3.8 / 3.3
B = 3.5 / 3.0
B- = 3.2 / 2.7
C+ = 2.8 / 2.3

so how do I find the difference in my UW and W?

Uhh well if youre a math geek like me you could do the following…

number of classes you have on your GPA by semester (call this X)
multiply your UW GPA by X (we’ll call this number Y)
divide the number of honors classes you have taken by 2 (call this number Z)
then use this formula: (Y+Z)/X

Right but how do I found my UW GPA as opposed to W? The only way I know how to find my GPA is to just add all the given values (honors or regular) for each grade and divide by the number of classes per semester.

Well you can use that same formula but inverted.

number of classes you have on your GPA by semester (call this X)
multiply your W GPA by X (we’ll call this number Y)
divide the number of honors classes you have taken by 2 (call this number Z)
then use this formula: (Y-Z)/X

haha nvm, for example, say this is my report card for a given semester

Math Honors C+ (2.8)
Latin Honors B- (3.2)
Spanish Honors A- (4.2)
English Honors A- (4.2)
CP History B (3.0)
CP Religion B (3.5)
CP Chemistry A (4.0)

so what would be the UW GPA for this semester, and what would be then W GPA???

Well the numbers you have here are Weighted, so the GPA here is the average, which is (2.8+3.2+4.2+4.2+3.0+3.5+4.0)/7 which is 3.55714286, and you cant take a half a point off of each honors course and re average it to get UW. However, you put 3.5 for one of the "CP’ Bs, and 3.0 for the other. Is CP honors or not?

no its not, its regular credit (4.0, 3.7, 3.3, …)

oops, sorry. typo

Ok well you average the numbers to get the GPA, and you take away half a point from all honors classes to get the UW GPA

damn, that hurts haha. thanks tho.

p.s. i hate my schools grading system

93-100 = A
91-92 = A-
89-90 = B+
85-88 = B
83-84 = B-
81-82 = C+

clearly hurts our GPA’s, considering most other schools use a 90+ as an A, 80+ as B, and so on.

ahh sorry just venting haha

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a similar dilemma. At my school, we too don’t do unweighted GPA. An A+ for an honors course is a 4.0 and an A+ for a regular course is a 3.5. However, according to my guidance counselor, GPA is on a 4.0 scale. So my unweighted GPA is higher than my weighted GPA. How does that impact my chances for any college?

BTW, my UW GPA is 3.4 and my W GPA is 3.24

Hmm well dont worry guys, MOST schools get your grades and re calculate GPA for this very reason

Okay, because all of my counselors have said that my GPA is just “on a 4 point scale.”
So I hope schools will only look at the single GPA given by my HS, with all honors courses weighted. I don’t see the point in unweighting all of those classes.
