<p>U Mass told us they DO recalculate a weighted GPA for each applicant and only include academic classes. PE and electives are excluded. </p>
<p>Our HS class ranking is based on weighted GPA, which is think is the only fair way. Why should a kid who busts his/her tail for an A- in an AP class be ranked lower than a kid taking a low level class in the same subject be considered equal in class rank?</p>
<p>Oh, I see what you’re getting at. I’m afraid that’s not the case here for admissions. Once accepted, though, that transcript gets a pretty thorough going over. Then, those Fs or Cs will be flagged and course recommendations made (or testing offered). But I’m sure places with more resources may have the time to assess every class on every transcript for every applicant. About the only thing you can be sure of in this crazy process is that blanket statements about what colleges do or don’t do, don’t cover very much!</p>
