Does Ole Miss take recalculate a weighted GPA or do they accept whatever is on the transcript?

My son has a 3.4 weighted and a 22 ACT. Does he have a chance of getting admitted to Ole Miss?

I don’t know if they use weighted, unweighted, or whatever is on the transcript, but if you read this page, you’ll see that your son will have no problem getting in:

Because these standards are dictated by Mississippi law, Ole Miss has a very high acceptance rate, something like 80%. However, those of us with kids there agree that it’s considerably better than its admissions standards would seem to indicate. Ole Miss has the atmosphere of a smaller private school, and professors and very accessible. It’s not Ivy League by any stretch, but it’s quite nice.

Thank you mantori.suzuki. I looked at the Office of Admissions and Enrollment Services page before posting this but I wasn’t sure if the law in Mississippi applied to out of state students.

I’ve heard that Ole Miss’ campus is beautiful and that Oxford is a charming town.

For many reasons, GPA and ACT being one of them, Ivy schools are not on my son’s radar. He’s looking for a school that will fit his personality and allow him to continue to mature academically. He’s one of those late bloomers!

I look forward to visiting Ole Miss.

The reason the scores for automatic admission are so low is because people from Mississippi high schools have lower test scores in general compared to other states that doesn’t make Ole Miss a bad school at all, most of ole miss’s averages are like a 3.30 GPA and a high 1500 SAT, but those scores do apply to out of state kids, I got accepted in December and I can’t wait to start next fall! hotty toddy!

Congratulations ARose92! I’m sure that you’ll love Ole Miss.

My husband and son are visiting the school next Saturday. I’m hoping that he really likes the school and will put it at the top of his list.

I’m sure that Ole Miss is a fabulous school that offers its student a great education.

Is the 3.3 GPA average a mix of weighted and unweighted? Also, when does Ole Miss open up applications for fall and when do they begin to release acceptances?

Ole Miss has rolling admissions.

Has anyone heard from the Honors college at Ole Miss this year? I know of some who have and others who have not. What is the significance of that? My daughter is waiting anxiously. Thanks for any insight.

I wouldn’t worry just yet. The Honors College had a record (875?) applicants this year. The current Honors College membership is 780. D said the number of applicants was overwhelming.

Thanks very much-will relax now!

My son just got a letter the other day (think it was dated 3/2) which notified him that he had not been selected to the Honors College, but reminded him that he had an offer to be Provost Scholar. The Provost scholar designation allows early move-in privileges, early registration privileges, etc. Hope you daughter gets in - it is very selective (we knew our son was borderline, but I have another son who is in it now (3rd year)) and it is a great program.

She is on the wait list and will probably choose Tulane or UGA at this point-Have to see. Thanks for your help with all of this!
