Could someone tell me how UVA weights GPA's? I am from out of state and I called admissions but didn't get a clear answer.

Uva does not actually have a weighting system at the university. I believe all or at least most universities do not do this.

If you mean how they view HS weighted GPAs, they obviously have to take each weighted GPA with caution. Weighting systems are so varied that they aren't very reliable at all in terms of comparing students. They'll focus mainly on your unweighted GPA and your class rank, where the latter is generally determined by your weighted GPA. Also, taking more weighted classes than nonweighted indicates to them that you're attempting to take a tougher courseload, especially if they're IB/AP classes. These are the more relevant ways that weighted GPAs apply to the admissions process.

CAVAgrl, the UVA admissions office doesn't weight GPAs, as far as I know. The weighted GPA only serves the purpose of comparing students within one school - it provides a somewhat fairer way of creating a class rank. More important to UVA will be where you're ranked in comparison to your peers, what your unweighted GPA is, and the strength of your courseload.
