For the UC system, they cut off extra points after 8 semesters of approved ap/honors courses. Which classes do they choose if you take more than 8 semesters??
There is no choosing of which AP classes are used in the calculation as long as they were taken in 10th or 11th grade. If you have taken 8 semesters of AP/UC approved Honors classes in 10-11th grade, you get 8 extra honors points. If you have take 16 semesters of AP classes in 10-11th grade, you get 8 extra points. This is what is meant as capped UC weighted GPA. You cannot get anymore than 8 extra honors points.
@Gumbymom Yes, but what if I have more than 8 semesters and in one AP class I received an A, but in another I got a B. Wouldn’t it benefit me to have the “A” chosen as part of the capped GPA instead of the B?
You input all your grades for all your a-g classes into the UC GPA calculator but only get honors points for 8 semesters. You do not pick which classes you use for your GPA, you input all your grades for 10-11th classes that meet the UC requirements, you just do not get the extra wighted points toward your GPA beyond 4 AP classes.
