Weighted GPA

Hi! I'm Mike,

I have a question about how heavily the weighted GPA is weighted in the admissions process (no pun intended...maybe). (Give me a like a score range as well, my school goes up to about 4.7)

Also, please chance me too lol :)

I go to a very competitive school in the northeast where 10% of the student population goes to some ivy league school or top public school.

GPA(UW): 3.85 (I hurt by Junior year )
GPA(W): 4.41
Rank: Top 10%
Class size: 400
I took nearly all honors and APs

I got 4's on all my AP tests, and 2 5's AP Physics and AP CALC (ab), and one 3 Stat (yea...epic fail)

SAT I : 720 CR 800 M 750 W Essay 10 (will retake this, I'll probably get a 2300+ in October)
I am taking it again next year
SAT II: 740 Chem, 800 Math II
I am going to take Physics too

ECs:

Chinese Club Treasurer
Varsity Fencing 3 years - Captain
Economics Club - Founding Member
China Night- Director and Manager
Future Problem Solvers- 15th in the state, (will make second next year)

Ethnicity : Asian
Gender: Male
Teacher reqs: Excellent, Two of them loves me, and another is like my godmother

Essay: I'm working hard on this essay.

Interview: IDK, I'm actually worried about this....

Majors: Finance, Business, economics, International relations and business.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So you’re applying to Stern? I don’t do “chancing” but your SATs are pretty impressive.

That said, I was told Stern mostly looks at the unweighted GPA. If your school transcript gives them a weighted GPA they make it into unweighted, or something.
Also… what interview??

Interview, idk borderline students usually get these I suppose, my parents says I am border line for all my schools, such as UPENN, JHU, Northwestern, and STERN.

There are no interviews for NYU, so you’re in luck. You have a good chance for Stern RD, just like everyone else. Your GPA will not hurt you either.

i think you have a decent shot at stern. i don’t really think anyone is a lock for stern though.

i think your UW GPA is just fine.

Thanks for replying everyone! This is somewhat unrelated but, which is easier to get in? Northwestern, Cornell, or NYU Stern through regular admission.

Also which is easier to get in through early decision?

I need to know because my dad is freaking out on colleges…Personally I like stern but he says that I need a school that I can be somewhat sure to get in.
(again my dad is making ask this question, sorry if its insulting)

Tell Dad you are sure to get into CUNY Brooklyn, but you have cery good chances everywhere else.

Northwestern > NYU Stern > Cornell

In that order of difficulty.

Check out BU’s School of Management as a safety. You’d have a good chance at BC Business School too, but don’t count on it because BC is known for rejecting/waitlisting applicants who are they think are using them as a safety school aka overqualified applicants.

I would swap stern and northwestern if you are looking at finance, chris :)

Oh he meant in terms of admissions, not academics. Haha, whoops. They are all pretty much the same level of difficulty, with nyu just a wee bit below northwestern and cornell,
Just a bit though. A safetyish alternative you could look into is USC marshAll

Thanks again everyone!!!
