there have been a few questions lately on whether schools look at weighted or unweighted gpa's.
my question is -
are the average GPA's that princeton review(and other college sites too) has on their site for each school weighted or not?

My guess is that all the scores listed are unweighted. It would be very difficult to list average weighted GPAs because every high school does it differently and it means different things to different people. However, unweighted grades on a 4.0 scale are the same no matter where you go.

"However, unweighted grades on a 4.0 scale are the same no matter where you go."

haha i dont know about that. you are making the big assumption that every school gives out grades in the same way. At more competitive schools, you must show more knowledge to receive good grades. I'm not saying that competitive schools give out less A's, I'm saying its harder to get them(but since there are more motivated kids at compettive schools, more of them may get those A's).

thats why i dont believe the top schools 'inflate' grades. the new rules at princeton for deflating grades are stupid. if a student shows that he has mastered the subject, he deserves an A. The reasoning for not getting an A is.. ' oh, you're only in top 40% of class', if the top 40% has mastered the class. And you should hope that at top notch universities, many kids can master their coursework. If the coursework is ungraspable by a majority of brilliant students, its fault of the coursework, not the students.
