weighted vs. unweighted GPA

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I guess I'll just post it here. Is weighted GPA more important than unweighted? Like, would a 3.8 UW and 4.4 W look better to colleges than a 4.0 UW and 4.2 W?

Thanks in advance!

Unweighted GPA is an attempt to standardize, so that in theory a 4.0 unweighted GPA is better than a 3.8 unweighted GPA. But it just isn’t that simple because course load is equally as important.

So someone that takes no honors or AP’s and has an 4.0 unweighted GPA is not likely to be considered a superior candidate to another applicant with all AP courses and a 3.8 unweighted GPA.

So I guess the answer is it depends.
