So I know that different high schools have different methods of weighting gpas, so how is this fair?
At my school, 4.0 is a 100 percent. Basically, for APs, you add 6 percent to the whatever percent grade you have and 4 percent for honors classes. To find your GPA on a 4.0 scale, you divide your percent grade by 25.
But I know at some other schools, you add 0.5 to whatever grade you have on a 4.0 scale.
So it doesn't seem really fair to compare two students who have weighted GPAs from different schools because a 4.1 at one school may be a 4.4 at another.
I suppose admissions probably do something to make this fair - does anyone know what they do? I was just wondering, thanks!

They take your grades and weight it by their system.

Class rank, if the high school calculates it.

Focusing on your unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Recalculating your GPA using their own system (some colleges do this).

Looking at your whole transcript. (If you got mostly As and took the most advanced classes possible, you’re fine. Also, you won’t be looked down on for not taking as many advanced classes as someone who went to a school that offered more.)
