Weighted vs. Unweighted GPA

My weighted GPA is 4.0 (and growing) while my unweighted GPA is 3.67 (and with grow with the weighted). It's my junior year and I'm not sure if colleges will look at my weighted or unweighted. My school is considered a very good college prep school. On average, 20 students each year go to University of Notre Dame if that tells you anything. How long to admissions take to read your transcripts and such? I know GPA is very important for most colleges and I am nervous they won't give me a fair shot if they looked at my profile's face value.

Some look at weighted, some look at unweighted, and some recalculate. There is a lot of variation in the system. ND uses a holistic approach, so GPA isn’t everything.

In general, you submit your GPA on CommonApp just as the way it is presented on your transcript to avoid confusion. You need to specify if it is weighted or unweighted. The school may recalculate it if they want to. Many schools only counted the core subjects. Some also skipped the freshmen year. So they will not rely on the number you put down anyway. What would be helpful is to look at the data from you school and compare your GPA with the students that are admitted into prestigious colleges.

I’m in a similar situation, where my unweighted is decent, but my weighted is great because of dual enrollment. I think most colleges look at your transcript and notice high rigor.

My school submits apps through naviance.com so I don’t know what the website does. I will ask my counselors sometime.
