I have a quick question...
I am a CA resident and am concerned about how colleges look at weighted vs unweighted. Which colleges look at UW/W GPA? Does it differ if you are an OOS applicant? If you have a great weighted GPA but a mediocre UW GPA, will colleges look at the weighted GPA?

Thats not exactly possible. Weighted gpas aren't out of 4, they are out of the highest possible score to get, which if your UW is mediocre then your weighted would be quite a bit bellow the theoretical highest.

That said if you take a very rigorous course load, and get good, but not great grades you can get into very good schools. Probably better than if you took a super easy course load and got straight As.

Many - some - colleges now take apart the transcript and apply their own "weighting". Two schools my daughter applied to did this - looking only at "core" courses. Since her high school doesn't weight much her GPA as calculated by one college went up quite a bit and qualified her for a very nice scholarship.

GPA is a number that is not easily compared between students from different high schools.
