Weighted vs. Unweighted

Do colleges just look at unweighted GPA or weighted GPA?

Cause if they really look at unweighted, i could have EASILY taken all non-honors and non-AP and get straight A's and then my unweighted GPA and weighted GPA would be 4.0. Like wat the heck, does my Weighted GPA say anything??? Like taking tougher classes??

Adcoms aren't stupid. They look at grades (UW GPA) and courseload as two separate entities and get a sense of how you really did. With the exception of big state schools, there's no formula for admission. They'll see that you took harder classes. It'll make a difference.

*, i am so mad.. i found out that UCs dont give credit for honors class at the freshmen ans sophomore levels!!!!!!! There harder classes. I took honors Bio in freshmen year, however the school gives it the title Honors but UCs dont give u credit. This is true for many of my classes and these classes are not easier then CP level however i dont get any special credit from UCs. OMG i should have just taken CP and get an A. *. So mad.............

They do look at whether or not you took the most rigorous schedule available though so those classes do matter to the adcoms. My son's HS stopped giving any credit for frosh and soph weighted points four years ago and nothing has changed as a result. The Adcoms still see your transcript and know which are considered honor courses. And would you really have preferred the other classes? My kids always took the harder ones even if they got a lower grade because the regular classes were boring to them. Good luck.

They do that because many high schools don't offer such classes.

Level playing field

Yeah but i have to do honors work for regualr credit for my gpa...... Is that leveling the playing field??

I take Honors Hisotry get a B at my school. another person who does not have honors History takes it and gets an A. UCs give me 3 points and the other person 4. Is that fair??

Then don't take it? l0l....

College adcoms will see the honors on the name, or you can be you and mention it somewhere. No biggie...

Life isn't fair man. I went to a high school that didn't have honors classes like that, then transferred into one that did senior year. They DID give their honors classes weights in the gpa. Since I never took those classes (because I transferred in) and everyone else did, I didn't get that boost, and my rank plunged. Sucked for me, but what can ya do? Nada.

No biggie!!

I wasted my time doing Harder, more demanding honors class where i could have just chill and done the CP and get the same credit as the other kids who take CP. This isnt really leveling the playing field.

What about those kids who didn't go to high schools that offered such classes.

Level the playing field

You dont level the playing field by giving us honor kids a disadvantage......

The adcoms will see you took honors classes anyway and consider it. What more do you want?

They look at the unweighted GPA for everybody. It's the only way to fairly compare people across high schools with vastly different weighting schemes and course offerings.

They'll see that you challenged yourself and consider you accordingly.
