Weighted vs. Unweighted

I've been looking over tons of posts on CC, and notice people give both weighted and unweighted GPAs.

Does weighted means for an honor course you add 1 point (AP Enlgish = A = 4 +1 = 5) and unweighted means not adding any point even if it is an honor course (AP English = A = 4)? Do UC schools look at both?

UC schools don't see your transcript until after you are admitted and choose to go to one, hence they do not know or care about your weighted and unweighted GPA. They calculated GPAs using their own system based on the grades you self-report on your application. This GPA is only based on a-g courses taken in 10th and 11th grades. Each of your first eight semesters of honors/AP courses give you an extra point. To see if a course is a-g and if it is accredited by the UC system as an honors course, search for your school here: http://www.ucop.edu/doorways/

But your understanding of weighted and unweighted courses is correct.

Thanks for the reply!
