Weighted vs. Unweighted

Which matters more?

Do unweighted 4.0's really matter that much? I've taken 27.5 courses and I've gotten 3 B's, the rest A's.. which gives me a 3.89. Is that really so bad? Will not having a 4.0 really hurt?

What's a typical good weighted average? If you have over a 5.0, should that suffice as a good enough GPA?

30 views… but no answer?

“Weighted GPA” means almost nothing in admissions, because there is no standard weighting system.

Not all colleges consider class rigor the same amount. At some it matters a lot; at some it matters little.

What do you mean by “typical” and “good” and “good enough”? Those terms are very subjective.

Unwieghed is more important in that it levels the playing field a bit, while the weighed GPA, like at my schools, is how the class rank is formulated. A 3.89 is great, not the best, but it will not prevent you getting in anywhere, except for the ultra-elite schools. Continue workign hard and try to get that GPA to the 3.9-3.95 level. :D

As said before, class rigor is very important, so keep that in mind. :)

Do senior year classes get added into your unweighted GPA?
