weinstein.

I want to dorm in weinstein but it seems like no oen likes it? I read a thread by missamericanpie saying it is close to everything.

I looked on housing and it truly is! 5 min walk to NYu campus and has a 24 hour convenience store in it.

So why does no one like it? i saw teh pictures and teh dorm looks kind of ungly, its that it?lol.

everyone is all for 3rd north and 12th street.

the nickname for Weinstein is “the concrete prison”. you really feel like you’re in a prison in there. cinderblock walls, drab carpets, etc.

however, if you really decorate it and make it homey, it’s fine.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s that bad. Yeah, compared to some other NYU dorms, it’s nothing much, but compared to dorms at other schools, it’s still much better than most of what other schools have to offer. And it’s not a five-minute walk from campus, it’s ON campus. The only thing it’s a full five-minute walk to might be Coles or 194 Mercer. And the 24-hour convenience store is Space Market. It’s not owned by NYU, but they are very NYU-friendly.

D lived in Weinstein this past year and there is plenty about it that she is going to miss. Convenience and location, to start. It is located in what you would consider the “center” of NYU, right by the park. There are two main dining areas, as well as kosher dining. And a fantastic food store open 24/7 next door.

The main difference with Weinstein is that it was built as a traditional dorm, rather than converted into dorms from apartments. So the layout of rooms and long hallways is very conventional (except for the fact that all rooms have a private bathroom which makes it way better than any other tradtional dorm at other schools.) Yes, the walls are made of cinder block, but they are painted, so it is totally a non-issue. Most students cover the walls with photos and artwork, anyway.

Truly, there is nothing “prison like” about it. As a New Yorker who grew up in an apartment house, that is basically what the hallways look like. And in a few years, when you graduate and want to stay in the city, you would kill for that location, and yes, even settle for that little space!

weinstein, rubin, goddard. these are all close to campus. but weinstein is small. oh and hayden. i dormed in goddard my freshman year and i liked it. but i also heard really good things about rubin.
