I woke up this morning expecting my ND decision. After 3 nervous periods of school, I drove home to check the mail. I saw my SI and a few junk mail pieces, and then I saw it: a normal sized letter from ND. :( I thought my chance were bleak. Of course, I hadn't read CC yet and it turned out to be just a further financial aid information request. I live to see another day.

Here's my question:

The letter said something like... we need your W-2 forms from your parents, etc. Please return this information in the next two weeks. It was dated March 28th.

Two weeks would be long after we find out about admission. Is there anything to read into this? I have heard about this happening to one other person at my school too. It seems like a good sign. I know financial aid and admissions are seperate, but why would they request W-2 information from someone they were going to reject / waitlist approximately 2-3 days later.

Has anyone else gotten this letter this year? Past years? Just curious. It was quite the emotional few minutes.

Gahhh, I would have gone crazy if I got that today. But I did get that letter, except it was a couple weeks ago. I've heard several different explanations, one being that the financial aid and admissions offices do indeed work separately. But that's just being safe. Let's hope that getting that letter meant something anyway. We'll find out in a little bit... Good luck!

I got a similar letter from Tufts and then was accepted yesterday. With all the work they have, I can't imagine at this late date they would be asking for more information from someone who isn't getting admitted. No guarantees, but I think you might be getting good news soon!! Congrats...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that from what I remember, I recieved notification from Northwestern and WashU reminding me about the need to file financial aid documents by a certain deadline. Of course these letters indicated they were a generic letter sent out by the financial aid office, not the admissions council and asked that you please wait on the notification of acceptance/wait list before sending in the additional info. Of course I ended up being waitlisted at both those institutions yet getting into ND (and no I had no hook to get in here).

This was several years ago admittedly. Things could have changed. I wouldn't read too far into anything. Take a step back and relax, you'll find out soon enough as it is.

I just re-read the letter. It says at the bottom: "we look forward to working with you in the YEAR AHEAD and to providing you with the information..."

I only bothered posting it because of the distress it caused. If financial aid is going to work with me in the year ahead, then hopefully they would have a reason to.

If I don't get in now, it's going to feel like a really sick practical joke. :)

phidoux, your parents might have already sent the information in. seemed to me like in ohio they didnt give us the W-2's in time so we couldnt send them in time.

So, we haven't sent any financial aid in but fafsa and css because it's not due until the 15th. ND did send us a big packet of info about financial aid a while back though. I haven't received any additional letters. So does that mean I'm not in?

this is why these frantic posts really bother me and are a disservice to other people. While everyone is obsessed with trying to read the littlest difference between situations as some indication of whether they or someone else is in other people with legitimate questions might draw the wrong conclusion.

GettingAnxious: right now I think it a little precipitous to be worried about whether or not you made it in based on what forms the financial aid office may have or may not have sent to you. I honestly would state it impossible to say whether you are in or not until you hear from the SCHOOL in a letter. Good luck though!

i agree w/ you nemo but when nd is the last school your waiting to hear from, your 1st choice by FAR, and you don't really want to go to the other schools you got into it hard to stop looking at these.

GettingAnxious and phidoux....i'm in with you both too....ND's my first choice and only one i'm waiting for! i hope we all receive good news....

i didnt mean to cause alarm. it was probably caused more so by my parents not knowing what forms to send in if anything :). just thought i'd share a scenario that many of us fear and one that almost seemed to be happening to me this morning.
