Dear Cal Applicant,
As faculty and staff from U.C. Berkeley’s Coalition for Excellence and Diversity in Mathematics, Science, and Engineering, we are very excited that you have applied for admission to Berkeley.

Although admission decisions have not yet been made, we want to give you a closer look at what Berkeley can offer its students in mathematics, science, and engineering. We hope you will carefully compare academic life and student life at different colleges and universities as you consider your college options.

it goes on to talk about science programs and stuff at UCB. But the question i have, is by diversity, what do they mean? I am a white kid from a middle class southern California community, couldnt be further away from URM. Do you think i may have typed in something wrong on my application?

wow, if that's true, i am suprised. i thought my SAT 2's would have held me back (650,630,610) but my SAT 1 is good 800M,660V. I'm probably not going to UCB unless i don't get any financial aid from Notre Dame though, i got accepted there Early Action.

if u aren't in, why should they say "we want to give you a closer look at what Berkeley can offer its students in mathematics, science, and engineering. We hope you will carefully compare academic life and student life at different colleges and universities as you consider your college options.'
i didn't get the email. sonot all people get it

I got one too, but if you want my opinion, it really didn't feel like anything special; it was from the Diversity Coalition, which sounds like an organization that is trying to promote itself to all applicants... Not sure why I think this, but it just really has that feel to it.

The e-mail also has a paragraph that discusses what Berkeley admissions are looking for... It doesn't resoundingly ring out "You're in."

Did you apply for engineering though? Because that's what my friend did and I guess it's a common practice for that school to send likely letters.

I applied for Chemical biology (not sure but i think it might be under engineering department). It would be cool if it meant i was in, but until i see or hear further proof i dont think it means much.
