Weird email

i applied chemical engineering.... i got nothing........... did anyone applied under college of chemistry get that email???

ya..i applied to the college of chemistry too under chem and havent received anything also

i applied as a history major and i also got this email today. I don't think it means anything

i just got this email today and i applied for chemical biology

I got this email today--applied for EECS.

This is obviously spam mail folks, I can feel it. The only real merit this thing has is that it doesn't say "this doesn't reflect your admission status" disclamer on the bottom.

But I dont think they send "spam" mail to those who wont get in. I mean from what I gather, not everyone received this email.

"The Coalition works hard to create diverse and
supportive communities of academically talented
students at UC Berkeley who are interested in science,
engineering, or mathematics."

I am pretty sure it is sent to all minorities (african american, asians, native americans, etc.) who applied to a major in science, engineering, or math. That's just my guess.

also, it says "If you are admitted to Berkeley, the campus offers ..." so I don't think it is anything to worry about. Some people got it, some didn't. Simple as that.

I just got it - and I applied for molecular biology. It would be nice to actually receive some acknowledgement or hint about the status of an application...the wait just seems so long, though I guess we only have to wait until March 31st - April 1st for most of our decisions.

Hmm...maybe it was sent to all minorities. Did any non-minority get this email?

i'm not a minority

im white, but i figure i got one because im gay, i was hoping it was a likely letter

Guys, I think it's spam. Why on earth would they send this to me when I've applied for Linguistics? I'm not a URM either, unless they take the size of Kuwait into account - "it's so tiny and in the middle of nowhere that she might as well be an Inuit for all we know! Let's take her in!!!!"

The fact that the subject title was in caps made me wary. I've scanned the e-mail and there doesn't seem to be any spelling mistakes, but it just doesn't seem right to me. I wish it was a likely letter, but I'd rather be skeptical now rather than get my hopes up.

I don't think it is a likely letter.

If you're from Kuwait, i'd say that's an URM. One doesn't meet too many people from there.

We will all find out March.

I'm asian, applied for bio, didn't get it

White, , engineering, OOS, middle class, got one a few days ago. I don't think this has anything to do with admission. They are just staggering the emails over a few days. I think everyone will get one eventually.

Count me as another person who is confused. I got one but:

--I'm asian--"diversity" my ass, like Berkeley is lacking asian people.
--My math and science scores were clearly lower than my verbal scores
--I am undeclared

scratches head Oh, I found this: http://www.aad.berkeley.edu/coalition/

well it's weird they are emailing this stuff to non minorities.

Oh, I don't know if this is on the link I posted, but another place said that they wanted to recruit women as well as minorities. Are most people who got it female (I am)?
