I got a call from a cornell alum. I figured he wanted to schedule an interview. But, rather he just asked me if I had any questions about the school and I pretty much asked a few q's and told him ive been there a lot because my sister goes there. Then he went on to tell me that I chose a great place to major in bio and that although it is hard he thinks i'll be able to handle it. I was confused because I didnt know they randomly call you and "interview" you

yea thats very weird. i guess some interviewers are too lazy to actually have an interview. . . laziness at cornell? hmm

It was a lazy interviewer.

Did he email you beforehand? Apparently, alumnis aren't allowed to contact you for the very first time and make that the interview itself (without letting you know first)

^^^oliviachang:
Not true.

wow.....my interviewer was nice enough to call me a week in advance and then reminded me a day before the interview as well. He also got to the place half an hour early( i know this because i did too)

did all of you apply ed?

Yes, I did

No I wasnt contacted and the conversation lasted about 4 minutes. He spoke to me like I was already accepted, very strange.

lol ya thats the kind of call u get from a place u are already accepted to...he must have really been lazy or you did get accepted. Hope the latter lol. (Who knows tho...I sure don't so don't take that as informative at all lol)

Although interviews are not required or evaluative... November 30th is the last day for Alum to submit narrative contact reports for ED applicants. I'm sure they are just trying to speak to as many applicants as possible before the deadline. Don't worry if you have not been contacted - it does not matter at all.

Is there a possibility the interviewer has any idea how good a candidate you are? I mean you mentioned that your interviewer thought you would get in, and I noticed that with my interviewer too. He was probably just being optimistic, but coming out of the interview I had a sense that it was more than just being polite. Then again, I see NO way he could know anything so he was just probably being polite.

I think they have to be polite and make you think you will get in. My interviewer was like I'm sure you'll e-mail me with good news. Cornell 2012! He was telling me how I should book a hotel for graduation this instant and was being serious(when obviously i wasnt accepted). Yea he made me feel better for a good 5 minutes but then I was like wait a minute, his word doesnt mean anything (or maybe it does... lol)

yeah, cadabra, similiar with me. He was like "feel free to ask for any advice once you get in"

well hopefully we will get in. I will send him a big fruit basket lol

yup, we will probably get to know eachother as well considering the small class size in ILR.

Thats what I liked about Cornell. Debating which colleges I wanted to apply to I wasnt sure if I wanted a small school or a large school considering I come from a huge school (I have 1,000 students in my grade alone). ILR offered exackly what I needed a small school within a large school. Just in case I ever changed my mind and decided I either wanted a small or large school. When I went to the ILR open housE I really felt the ILR community was very close knit which I think is great.

^ exxxxactly

If they said that to u that means that they are going to write you a good rec so at least that's good news. But that graduation thing is real...I scheduled it when I got my gt lol. Places fill up insannnnely quickly. Mention this to ur parents or u'll regret it! (some hotels only schedule a year/2 years before so u may run into that but b'n'b's and inns don't usually do that).

Anyhow, GL!
