Weird Question but....

If both my parents were from Egypt am I African- American? The only other option I can find (on some not all forms) is "white (middle eastern)" which doesn't make much more sense. Should I just go for "other" to avoid confusion?

Good question. What do your parents say?

They say African-American cause it’ll obviously boost my chances but wouldn’t that be kind of weird if I had an interview?
But now that the common app says white(middle eastern) they say to put that… Kind of contradictory thats why im asking :(

Been to Egypt and couldn’t find anyone happy I called them Africans. They viewed themselves their as Egyptian which mostly consider themselves middle eastern Caucasians as well as most of North Africa. However, technically, you aren’t deceiving anyone. What are you’re odds of admission without an AA boost? Are you applying to the Ivies?

Besides what your parents tell you to put in a college app, what do they say you are?

I think you can check both.

I want to apply to the Claremont colleges and some UCs…you can check me chance me if youd like http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1482931-chance-me-junior.html#post15724577</a>
My parents say I’m middle eastern and that culture is very different from “white” which is why I’m reluctant to put that… Maybe I’ll just stick with “other” even though I dont really like it :/

Put African American. That way you won’t regret it. :/

Yes, you are.
