Hey guys so I'm considering majoring in russian or russian studies, since I am russian and I think it might help with a lot of my schools, especially ones that are reaches because i bet thats a less popular major. Thats usually a major within arts and sciences though so if I decide I no longer want to major in russian once I need to declare my major, how easy would it be for me to change my major to say political science? I am applying to small liberal arts/smallish universities so I'm guessing that would be easier then trying to change your major at a big state school. But would it even help my chances of getting in?

Some privates do, I read that Wesleyan will accept most anyone that wants to major in a science.

usually not. most colleges know you can freely switch majors once in college. therefore, they do not take into consideration majors. although, majors do affect waitlists; they'd rather take someone interested in certain majors.

most colleges accept people based on what college within the university they are applying to. For example, Chinese language and Biology are both under the College of Letters and Sciences at UC Berkeley, so it doesn't make a difference there. Plus, in your essays you will most likely write about something you're interested in or passionate about, and, for example, if you write how you love biology, and you go and major in Chinese, it will look fishy to the adcom.
