"Weird" Scholarships: Cardonors.com Straightforwardmedia.com etc. ARE THEY REAL?

(this one is crossposted as well)

I'm hoping the parents have some experience with these topics, perhaps, perhaps. :)

I've been looking for scholarships on Fastweb, and amongst the Gilman and the Rotary and other recognized scholarships, there are also a lot of "weird" ones, with a lot of ads on their sites, for about $500 each. Some have photos of the "winners" and some do not.

Are these for real? Has anyone here ever won, or heard of anyone winning?

Bump. Bump.

Bump. Does anyone know?

Sorry to keep bumping this one---but I figure that other people must wonder this too. Has anyone tried these? Does anyone know if there is a "scholarship rating service" or some such that will report on which ones are scams and which are not?

(If that doesn't exist, it sounds like a good business idea!)

I have no idea, but have wondered about the same thing. I have never heard of any students in our town receiving money from these kind of "weird" ones---but that doesn't mean they are not real.

im pretty sure the cardonors.com one is legit....its listed on fastweb after all...so im assuming that fastweb only puts on scholarships that arent scams

I wrote to Fastweb today to find out how they screen for scams. I'll let you know what they say when I hear back.

In the meantime, if anyone knows anymore about it, please post. :)

Good question. Fastweb seems to be pretty good about this kind of thing, but still...

Just don't send anyone any money....my thought is, that perhaps some places create "scholarships" to get free essays to sell...now wouldnt' that be a scam

Hahahahaha that WOULD be a good scam, especially if they charged an application fee in the first place. I hadn't thought of that...

Yeah, they do that. An old scam used to be to ask for money even to get an application! And then the app would be something no one could qualify for. :P

FastWeb has an article that explains how to tell if a scholarship is a scam - search for it
