I got into the welch summer scholars program for 2014 and just wondering if anyone here has gone before and would like to provide any information about what the program was like? I'm not sure if I want to go because I have a ton of other stuff to do over the summer..so yeah exactly how much free time would I have, what's the work rigor like, the overall experience, etc

ANYONE?!??!?!

: (

Hey, so I applied for the Welch Program this year and am yet to receive any notifications. Does this mean I am rejected, although it says in the website that notifications will be sent by March 31st??? Do you know anyone else who has gotten this notification? Nervous!!!

And I heard from my seniors that Welch is an awesome program with a lot of fun activities, so it should be an awesome use of time!!! Just go on wssptx.com and see the experiences of past Welch Scholars

Hey, I applied to the Welch Program as well and I have not received a reply either. I hope we didn’t get rejected!

Do they send an email to let you know if you got rejected?

they emailed me about a week ago telling me I got in and to notify them on whether or not I would be accepting the invitation by Wednesday …so I guess if people decline they’ll send out more offers? I still haven’t decided tho…

Well it’s a great program! I’m sure you can email them with questions about the work rigor. Congrats btw :)

@hihihello

So if you got a notification that you can accept an invitation, that means that if you didn’t get a notification, you are not selected and that basically, you are on waitlist. Dang it! idk where I went wrong!

Has anyone else heard anything from the program?

@McPanneer
You are probably correct. That’s depressing…

McPanneer is correct. If an email was not received, you are on a waitlist. Welch is a great research program from what I’ve heard and people I know said it looks great on your resume because you are doing high level research which is looked upon highly by colleges.

So do I have a chance of making it or should I forget about it and apply to other programs?

@tosterazn
okay! did you get in?

@oreogirl12 yes I did get in
@McPanneer you shouldn’t forget about it but apply to others just in case.
If you posted your stats I could give you a more accurate answer.

@tosterazn
Congrats on getting in!!
This is sort of general.
The only scores I could send in was the PSAT which was a 228.
I just took the March SAT and I haven’t gotten my scores yet.

etc…
good teacher recs
ok essays

@oreogirl12 you have very good stats and you should keep up the good work.
However, the only part of your application that seems to be the weakest is your
essays if they are just “ok”. With your stats, if you wrote an amazing essay I am
sure you would’ve gotten in. However, I heard vacancies do occur and with your stats, don’t give up.
Good Luck

@tosterazn Thanks! I wrote the essay about an individual who has influenced me. It was about an elderly lady who was passed away and how through her I realized the importance and my love of science. It was good, but it could have been better. I guess I will just have to wait it out. :)

@oreogirl12 I’m really surprised you weren’t immediately accepted…Your stats
are way better than most people I know who applied to this and got in…
