Welcome Care Packages from Resident Student Association

Here's a question for experienced UD parents: What's the deal with the Welcome Care Packages promoted by the Resident Student Association? Did your child enjoy them, were they a good value (the price seems pretty steep to me), would you send them if you had an incoming freshman? Thank you for your opinions and advice.

i’d love to know too! My friend who has kids at Towson and Salisbury got the same think for their schools. I told my D not to expect those packages, I don’t want to over pay for basic food items and then have her only like about half of them. she was more than fine with it as she knows she’ll be getting a lot of stuff from me and I’ll be sending her well stocked as well.

We didn’t do any of that. My D likes her own things her own way, so we always sent personal care packages. I think the UD ones are too expensive and don’t appeal to her.

What I do is call the Italian restaurant on Main Street and order her a splurge of food that she can pick up and share with friends before finals every semester. It’s a huge hit. I also do personal care packages around holidays and just because for a lot less money.

We don’t use it either. I’d rather customize the care package myself and send DD exactly what she wants. Also on Main Street is SAS Cupcakes - perfect for your D/S’ birthday! Can call them to order! They deliver, but would have to be let in the residence hall. Or your D/S can just pick up.

The infamous “Crumbs Cupcakes” original establishment Hoboken NJ, will deliver to U D

[Cupcakes - Crumbs Bake Shop - Chocolate Cupcake, Red Velvet Cupcakes, Cupcake Delivery](http://www.crumbs.com/)

We would order for Birthdays and special events.

From past experience with my kids at other schools I find most of those services dissappointing and not much of a real treat. So I look for Bakeries or special food stores in the town around campus, like Zingermans in Ann Arbor. What I did for my UDel D order a couple of times from Bing’s Bakery on Main Street. http://www.bingsbakery.com/</a> That was really appreaciated. There is also a more commercial cupcake place on Main Street, SAS.

During the year I set my D up for monthly deliveries from Harry & David which she also loved.
