I’m a rising sophomore at BC, and absolutely loved my first year on campus. I’m here to answer any questions you may have about campus, academics, social life, Boston or anything else you’d like to know. I’m a biology major on a pre-health track! I’m not from New England, so it the East Coast was a big change for me. Hope I can answer any questions you might have.
Hi!
I’m an incoming freshman to MCAS, and there were a couple classes I got higher placement in because of AP exams and placement tests. In one of these classes, I am the only freshman in the course.
Did you have any experiences like that, and if/when you did, was it uncomfortable? I’m just worried about feeling very out of place in a situation where I need to perform well, especially because I tend to not do very well when I’m in an uncomfortable environment.
I just want to be able to make friends with the upperclassmen or to even be comfortable enough around them.
Yes! I took mostly AP classes in high school and was able to test out of all of the core classes besides art, philosophy and theology. The AP and placement tests can be a great way to challenge yourself by skipping introductory classes that would be a total review. That being said, it also varies greatly depending on the class. For example, I took a more advanced Spanish class last year and there were several upperclassmen in the class, but everyone was very friendly to the freshman. I also skipped calculus 1, and was in calculus 2 with other sophomores and freshman and I didn’t have any trouble making friends in those classes. However, I also placed out of one of the intro biology classes (I’m a bio major) but several people recommended I take the class anyway. What classes are you thinking of taking that are more advanced?
