<p>Welcome</a> Week 2010</p>
<p>I think it's time to discuss the Welcome Events for this year :D! Upperclassmen who experienced welcome week, do you guys have any recommendations of which events we should go to? What is your opinion of welcome week? Any suggestions, comments, and inputs welcomed :D. Incoming freshmen, ask your questions here and share your excitement about coming to Cal :)!</p>
<p>I would definitely go to the move-in day one on August 21st, or 22nd if you’re in a double. It’s probably the most important one on there.</p>
<p>That link says those in triples from the Units, Clark Kerr, and Foothill move in on the 21st and everyone else is on the 22nd. Did they accidentally leave off Stern and Bowles, or are the triples in those two halls supposed to move in on the 22nd instead?</p>
<p>You best bet is to check the move-in website. That would give you more accurate info.</p>
<p>I’d definitely recommend Koinonia. Wait until Aug 18 for the full listing which will be enormous, but yeah I always go to one Koinonia event during welcome week.</p>

<p>I’m not talking about the church. I’m referring to the events hosted by Koinonia like the BBQ/Ultimate Pizza during welcome week.</p>
<p>I actually had a question about move-in day. Do parents, since I assume most peoples’ come to help them move in, stick around after they help their kid move in? I feel like I’d really want to go around meeting people and it’d be sort of weird with my parents there lol. Or is the event on that day split between the students and their parents? Not really sure how it works.</p>
<p>Parents usually leave after moving in/maybe getting food with their kids. The units have floor meetings at like 8pm on move in day where you start meeting people besides your roommates. No parents are around by then.</p>

<p>Stern triples move in on the 21st. All of Bowles moves in the on 22nd.</p>
<p>Regarding Koinoinia, if you are uncomfortable with people talking to you about your religious beliefs (or lack of), it is probably a good idea to stay away from the religious clubs, even if you are just going to their events just for free food.</p>
<p>When I came for the summer, my parents helped me move in and then we went out for dinner. I came back and I think they might’ve had an event or I just set up my room for the rest of the night. My roommate was gone for a while…but they have a bunch of events after the move-in day (at least for summer they did). so my parents left after dinner.</p>
<p>One guy on my floor was an active Koinoinia member and invited us to a free lunch for Easter thing. 2 of my friends went mostly because they felt bad and ended up staying from morning till around 8pm and were the most ****ed off i’ve ever seen them lol - sitting through hours of Christian skits/singing? And they couldn’t leave because it was in Oakland far from bus routes. One of them is religious too. </p>

and try to go to the target back to school shopping thing if there is one. yet another good time to socialize with your floormates and roommates (if they go). also, I made a good friend on the bus ride there who I might’ve never met had we not been seated next to each other. ya never know.</p>
<p>Do Targets have good deals for the event? Is it really crowded and do you have to fight for the good stuff? What free stuff are offered at the welcome events like Caltopia?</p>
<p>Is anyone else kind of sick of all this? CalSO made me realize that I’m not a big fan of scheduled activities and “icebreaker” stuff. I’m just looking forward to when classes start and I can actually have my own schedule and make my own friends. Hehe.</p>
<p>Wait, so I saw the caltopia vid. All i saw that they give away is food and drinks lol. Or is there other stuff? I saw some cellphones…but would they give away that too?</p>

<p>Most people shouldn’t care about ice-breakers. It’s just a way to see if you like the person after you get over that. otherwise, you’ll be alone and sad. : [</p>

<p>Not trying to be a stereotypically angsty, rebellious teenager here. But, you know, I’m just kind of tired of all the “Wheee! Look how diverse we are!” hoopla of CalSO. But, I guess that’s how public institutions are!</p>
