Is the disparity between the # of women attending v. the # of men attending apparent?

i haven't even noticed, i think overall it's something like 52% women 48% men

thank you for the link to this. how often is it updated?

any thoughts on real v. perceived advantage to applying ED?

"it" referring to common data, not % of men v. women. lol.

umm it's updated every year, and i had HOPED for 2006-2007 by now, that's what i was referring to when i asked when common data sets would be posted.

ED, as i understand it, will give a more average (by NU's standards) applicant a better chance of acceptance

after I hit send i realized my wording was weird on the common data - obviously annually - duh on my part. The info. would be helpful. is there any other way to get that question answered besides asking Laura? would i call admissions or some other dept?

if i can find anything out I'll let you know.

Thanks for your posts. they are very helpful.

i doubt they'll be able to give you any definitive answer, i was kind of joking when i asked when it was going to be up, i'd assume by the end of november at the latest

Where's LauraR?
This whole ordeal has left me very frustrated!

Maybe I should reconsider Northwestern...

Hello everyone! Thank you for the kind words of welcome! I do exist :)
I'm sorry I haven't posted until now, but I've been out of the office recruiting great students like yourselves and haven't had a chance to write until now! I'm excited to be here and look forward to chatting with all of you!

Laura, What does it mean to be out "recruiting great students?" Does that mean you visit certain high schools for informational sessions or do you actually seek out students you want to attend NU?

When does this year's common data report get released?

Happy you are around!

An aside, hopefully someone will come out recruiting great students in westchester County, NY. Northwestern is the only school my daughter is seriously considering that isn't visiting her school. It seems like Northwestern only visited the area very early in the year, too early really IMO. The only place remotely around here it looked like you were still coming (a month or so ago when she looked at this) was in Philadelphia- which is not exactly next door.

LauraR,
I realize you are a liaison for NU, but why would one consider the 5 year double degree program at Nu over-lets say-Rice, Eastman-UR, or NEC-Tufts? What are the strengths and advantages of the five year program other than the obvious? What is the acceptance rate of those that apply to the Dual degree program?

No one from NU came to my high school, either. Is that a bad thing? I did go to the session that NU held locally and also did the Discover NU weekend. I'm wondering if my high school is not considered worthy of an NU visit? Eek. It is far and away my first choice. Thoughts?

well, if you consider how many high schools there are in the US, it's impressive if colleges visit your school at all. I think your school is less likely to be visited if its far from the biggest airport in your region.

My high school only had a visit from 1 "top tier" college this year

billybobbyk is right. there are thousands and thousands of high schools in the country. it's impossible to visit them all, so chill.

Forget her high school, they didn't visit the whole county as far as I can tell.

Westchester County is one of the wealthiest and highest-testing counties in the Northeast, I would think. Virtually all of the most selective colleges routinely visit Westchester County; and in fact virtually all of them also come to my daughters' actual school. Sort of gives one the impression that Northwestern thinks regional, or does not think it can compete in the NY area. If you know the area, you would recognize that this is a significant omission.

maybe northwestern already gets enough applicants from new york city and does not need westchester county :p

Zoomers - Representatives from Northwestern's admission office mostly conduct off-campus receptions in cities across the country (we also attend some college fairs and visit some high schools) to share information with interested students about our school. We would love to visit everyone and everywhere, but unfortunately, we have limited staff and limited time!

As for the common data set - I promise it will be out soon, thanks for your patience!!
