Absolutely yes, you must visit. Whether you and your S are leaning toward UA or are only considering it on a long list, you must check it out as you should with any college to see if it is right for your kid. Bama was not on our radar this time last year (hard to believe now!) In fact, D thought she was done with the whole college app process when we first heard about the University of Alabama (thanks, Mom2ck!) and it was actually last APRIL when we visited, no great expectations, mind you - and found ourselves growing more, and more wide eyed as we walked the campus. We didn’t even have the full, red carpet tour because everything was so rushed that we only gave Jamie 24 hours notice ! I won’t try to sell you on Bama - it sells itself if you visit. But do! Visit!

I’m with the others in saying that you really need to visit campus. If you are available during that weekend, Capstone Scholars Day is a great time to visit, but any day that UA is in session would also be a great time to visit. Once you have an idea of dates, contact Jami Gates at the Honors College (205-348-5599 or jami.n.gates@ua.edu ) and she will set up a great campus visit.

I understand the difficulty of scheduling events while doing dual enrollment. The high school and college rarely have the same days off and when they do, you’ve already scheduled something for that day. I’d look look at his course syllabi and have him talk to his teachers and professors/instructors about which day(s) he could possibly miss. He may have to do some work during the trip, but everything will work out.

If you haven’t heard, UA is very generous with dual enrollment credit. Myself and many of the other students on this board have entered UA with sizable amounts of credit thanks to dual enrollment and AP credit and became juniors and seniors by credit hours starting our second semester. UA’s merit scholarships are good for 8 semesters regardless of how much credit you transfer in, so some of us will be getting a master’s degree in addition to our bachelor’s degree.

What is your son’s intended major?

Oh, and welcome to TSDAD’s niece! congrats!

Thanks for the info and it looks like we will be heading south during Christmas break. We have visited and been accepted to many schools already so just weeding through the offers and Bama is def on the short list.

Biochemistry/pre-med, we are also awaiting invites to interview at a few BS/MD programs, should know in a few weeks on those.

Does your son have any Christmas break days off when Bama is in session? It might be hard to actually do a real visit if the school is closed for the holidays.

What days does your son have off for Christmas?

Hi,

I will be resigning my position at UA effective December 31st. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions plans to continue using College Confidential but will not have an official representative on the forum until another staff member is hired for these duties.

If you have any questions in the meantime please feel free to contact us through our website ([Undergraduate Admissions - The University of Alabama](http://gobama.ua.edu)), our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/ua.undergraduate.admissions), or our Twitter account ([UA Admissions (UA_Admissions) on Twitter](http://www.twitter.com/ua_admissions)).

Thank you,

^Bye, Nicole! Thanks so much for your help on this forum! You’ve been great.

I suggest they hire M2CK.

^I’ll second!

If she wants it, I’ll third that motion. While we are at it, let’s recommend her for President when Dr. Witt retires! Seriously, does the UA admin. know about her impact?

Best of luck to you, Nicole! Thank you so much for your help with this forum!

Thank you Nicole for all that you’ve done!
