Welcome New College Rep, UNCWAdmissions, from UNCW

Please join me in welcoming our newest College Rep, UNCWAdmissions, from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

As a reminder, our College Reps are individuals that we have taken reasonable steps to verify as being from the school they represent. (If you find a CC member claiming to be an admissions person at a college and that member isn't flagged as a College Rep, please let us know so that we can verify his/her status.)

As an matter of courtesy to our College Reps (who have real-world jobs and are incredibly busy during the admissions season!), please don't post pleas for help naming the individual (e.g., "Hey UNCWAdmissions - Need Answer ASAP!!!" is what NOT to do - ask your question in a new thread with a clear and specific title, and you'll get input from CC members and, perhaps, from the resident College Rep if he/she has something to contribute.)

Say hello if you like, but please don't ask questions in this thread - start a new one with a relevant title. Thanks!

Welcome, UNCWAdmissions.

Wish I were there now and not here in the snow in New England!

Nice to see some more reps from colleges and universities in my state. :)

^same.

Glad to see a Seahawk here

not too pleased w/uncw right now. why did my in-state son looked at by an admissions counselor that wasn’t from our area, but rather from where he attending boarding school?

^
Lol. People on CC never hesitate to jump on the opportunity to complain.

Anyway, welcome, UNCWadmissions.

It will be 80 degrees here and Wilmington, NC is hosting the Azalea festival… leave the snow and come visit UNCW for the weekend!

sushigal… feel free to call UNCW at 910-962-3243 and we will be more than happy to explain how our admissions counselors review an application. We always want to make sure you have all of your questions answered and the process is clear.

My daughter was admitted OOS and we will be visiting in a few weeks. We are from the northeast and my concern is that I hear that many students leave campus on weekends. Can anyone tell me if this is true. She is deciding between UNCW and a few private schools in Pa., and NY. She absolutely loves UNCW but I am concerned if most of the NC students leave campus on weekends.

Good question. Here is a response from one of my current OOS students: “When I came down to UNCW 4 years ago, I was afraid of the exact same thing. I figured most people would be from NC, so they would head home on the weekends. Nothing could be further from the truth! Between on-campus activities like concerts, movies, & speakers, as well as the beach and downtown Wilmington, there’s literally always something to do. To be honest, I probably go back home to Pittsburgh during fall semester more than my friends that live in Raleigh or Charlotte. UNCW is really more of a community as opposed to just a place to come for classes during the week and it definitely shows during all the on-campus weekend activities. - UNCW Student, Class of 2011”

We live in the Charlotte area. Our neighbor’s S goes to UNCW. He vitually never comes home for weekends. My S went to NCSU but had friends at UNCW. They were always there on weekends. S visited Wilmington quite a bit on weekend road trips.

A

lllllll

Being a novice at using this site, please forgive me if I didn’t start a new thread.
Question for UNCW admissions rep. My D has received a Spring Admit from UNCW. She has applied to almost nine schools and been accepted to all for fall admission. Her acceptances include UDEL, NC State, Elon, COFC, James Madison, Quinnipiac and several others. The letter we received says she wasnt’ quite up to speed to meet the academic profile, however, then goes on referencing somewhat of a housing issue. Can you shed some light on this. We visited UNCW last April and it was among her top two. Needless to say it’s a tough sell at this point because of the many colleges that will accept her for fall 2011.

My daughter is an OOS freshman this year at UNCW. She has found that UNCW is quite the suitcase school and is transferring to another school in the fall. Until we visited in February and took a look around for ourslves, we thought she was exaggerating about the number of students who go home on the weekends that and that she just was not trying hard enough to meet people. The campus was very quiet and we saw few students. If there were activities going on, we didn’t see or hear any or notice any flyers listing events.

UNCW has the abilit to offer a small handfull of students an offer of admission to start in the Spring semerster. This year, with more than 11,000 applications, UNCW will bring in a Fall freshman class of 1,950 students and a Spring class of around 125 students. With admissions becoming more selective, the Spring class gives UNCW the opportunity to bring in a group of students that might not have fit UNCW’s academic profile exactly, but that we still felt would be a successful and contributing member to our university. We would be more than happy to talk specifis about any student if you would like to email or call in: 910-962-3243 or admissions@uncw.edu

UNCW Admissions, any idea when students who applied EA will hear a decision? I have a very anxious wannabe Seahawk at my house :)

The Admissions Committee is in the final reading and reviewing stage for all students that applied for the Early Action round. Each Early Action student, if their application is complete, will hear back from UNCW on or before January 20th. Our goal is the earlier the better. Please contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@uncw.edu if you are unsure if an application is complete.

I was hoping you would say on or before January 20, rather than an absolute date of Jan. 20. If students do not get in on the EA round, is their application then given consideration in the next round?

If students are not admitted in the Early Action Round they do not have the ability to re-apply in the Regular Decision round. At that point, if the student is still very interested in UNCW, we would encourage them to speak with our Transfer Counselors on next steps. Students can transfer into UNCW after a certain amount of coursework at a two or a four year school, and we are more than happy to help advise in that situation.
